Autumn is upon us this month as we cozy up, watch the leaves change, and prepare our costumes and festivities for Halloween. October has plenty to celebrate beyond the spooky season, including birthdays for the Libras (September 23 to October 22) and Scorpios (October 23 to November 21) in our lives. This month’s flowers and gemstones each have their own colors, stories, and symbolism, making them fun subjects for my art prints.
Cosmos
Cosmos flowers are a beautiful and colorful addition to any garden, or any home in the form of my Cosmos print! These daisy-like wildflowers come in an array of colors and symbolize harmony, peace, and love.
Their delicate petals and cheerful appearance make cosmos a lovely choice for anyone who enjoys floral artwork. With their association with love and harmony, they can also be a thoughtful way to celebrate a friend or loved one with an October birthday.
Marigold
Marigolds are known for their golden yellow and fiery orange blooms, as well as their cultural significance in Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations in Mexico.
During this tradition, families often use marigold petals to create paths between the resting places of loved ones and family altars. The flowers are believed to help guide the spirits of those who have passed back to their families.
Marigolds symbolize strength, power, and the connection between life and death. Their vivid colors and rich cultural history make them especially meaningful, and my Marigold print is a way to enjoy their beauty at home.
Opal
Opal is a mesmerizing gemstone known for its iridescent colors. Depending on the stone, you might see flashes of blue, green, pink, orange, and other colors shifting across its surface. Opal is also relatively delicate, which means it needs a little extra care when worn as jewelry.
My Opal print offers another way to appreciate this unusual gemstone without the expense of an opal jewelry piece. Opals are associated with hope, peace, and grounding, giving this colorful stone plenty of meaning for anyone celebrating an October birthday.
Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a crystalline mineral that occurs in a wide variety of colors. My Tourmaline print features watermelon tourmaline, a variety with pink and green sections that resemble the fruit it’s named after.
Tourmaline is associated with protection and grounding. It’s also traditionally connected with the eighth wedding anniversary, making it an interesting choice for both October birthdays and couples celebrating another year together.
